A design that was never finished

In 1965, architect Fritz Haller designed a modular system for USM’s own headquarters in Münsingen, Switzerland: chrome-plated steel balls joined by tubes, closed in with powder-coated panels. It could be built tall or low, open or closed, and rebuilt again whenever the need changed. Sixty years later it sits in the permanent collection of MoMA in New York — and in living rooms, record corners and home offices across Los Angeles.

Three ideas we won’t compromise on

Built to be rearranged. A USM system is never done. Add a shelf, change a color, move it to a new home and rebuild it differently. The piece grows with the room around it.

Made to order. Nothing is mass-warehoused. Every configuration is specified and assembled to your room, your wall, your colors — then delivered white-glove across LA.

Owned, not replaced. A Haller system is a once-in-a-lifetime purchase. When life changes, we help you reconfigure what you already own — instead of selling you something new.

Everything is built from three parts

The chrome steel ball is the joint that holds it all together — and lets it all come apart. The connecting tubes define the size and shape. The powder-coated panels close it in, in one of fourteen standard surface colors.
